Starting from Windows Vista Microsoft company added an option to run program as administrator. Many users misinterpret it, thinking that running program as administrator runs the executable file using the built-in Administrator user account, but this is not accurate. "Run as administrator" is running a program with extended privileges, such as reading and writing files to system directories.
This feature was introduced to increase security, especially when only one user account, which is administrators group member, is used on a computer. That user by default is having a restricted access token. And for cases when highest privileges are really necessary the extended privileges mode was introduced - so called "Run as administrator" mode
User Account Control (UAC) is used a bridge between user and admin modes. The point of it is that when a program requires highest admin privileges UAC asks user to provide those. The user has to decide whether to run this program with highest privileges or not. It is implied that when an unknown or suspicious files are executed the user is to deny the request, thus preventing execution of an unknown file. In case there are multiple users, and user running the file doesn't have administrative privileges, the request to enter administrator account login and password will be displayed, after that user privileges will be extended using that admin account.
Please note that running as administrator is preferred, but not required to run Addreality Player. Running Player without extended privileges can affect the following functionality
- Autoconfiguration (changing device settings to achieve maximum performance)
- Kiosk mode (blocking attempts to exit the application in playback mode)
- Turning off hotkeys
- Player stability (self-diagnostics and recovery mechanisms)
Also when Addreality Player is to be used without administrator privileges it is very important to pay attention to installation location. Otherwise update installation may be impossible. User account which will be used to run the application has to have writing permissions for selected directory.
Let's review 2 ways to install and run Addreality Player without administrative privileges (without extending privileges for user):
Installing and running Addreality Player without administrative privileges.
After downloading the distributive .exe file you should run it. The standart installation process will begin, after accepting the License Agreement you will be prompted to use administrative privileges and create a desktop shortcut. Uncheck the "Use administrative privileges" checkbox
Running already installed Addreality Player without administrative privileges.
Right click Addreality Player shortcut on your desktop, and click on "Properties" in the drop-down menu.
In the "Compatibility" tab uncheck the "Run this program as administrator" checkbox
After these actions player will run without requesting administrative privileges.
NB! User account which will be used to run Addreality Player must have writing permissions for directory used for installation of the application, otherwise update installation may be impossible.
